Welcome to SimOrg

A tour of what's here and how it works. New to the site? Start top to bottom.

What is SimOrg?

SimOrg is a manual browser-based Yu-Gi-Oh! dueling simulator. Nothing automatically resolves, just like in the real game. You'll be manually drawing cards, summoning monsters, activating effects, and adjudicating rulings yourself. The board keeps track of cards' positions and players' Life Points; the duel itself, however, is on you.

Deck Construction

Click on My Decks and then select New Deck to open the Deck Builder. When you select your format from the dropdown menu in the top right, the Deck Builder will adapt accordingly; special formats get their own slots if applicable (for example, a Deck Master slot in Domain, or a Skill slot in Speed Duel) and their own card pools. Search the full card database by name, text, type, attribute, level/rank, ATK/DEF, and more to find the cards you can build your Deck with. Click and drag a card into your Main, Extra, or Side Deck, or right-click on a search result to add it in directly.

You can have as many Decks as you'd like, and they'll be automatically organized into folders by format legality. Saving your Deck after editing it keeps your changes, and switching between Decks warns you first if any changes are unsaved. Mark one Deck as your Default Deck and it will be pre-selected whenever you sit down to Duel.

Bookmarks allow you to mark with a star up to 45 cards which you reach for constantly; they'll be one click away in the Deck Builder, and all of your searches of the card database can be sorted by Most Bookmarked across the whole site.

For our PRO users, there is additionally the Siding Patterns feature. It saves your common swaps against a particular strategy as a named pattern, and it can apply the whole saved pattern in a single action between individual Duels of a Match instead of having to make your swaps card by card, for up to 10 different Side Deck swap patterns per Deck.

Importing and Exporting

Already have Decks saved elsewhere? The builder has options for both importing and exporting, in the file format of your choice. Formats such as .ydk files and ydke:// links can be used to seamlessly import your Decks to SimOrg or export them to use elsewhere, such as on Spellbook.

Importing changes whatever is currently on screen in the Deck Builder, so make sure to save your work first if you have any unsaved changes to your current Deck. Exporting takes the Deck exactly as you see it on your screen and converts it to your chosen formatting.

Formats and Legality

SimOrg supports many different ways to play Yu-Gi-Oh!, with leaderboards, rating systems, tournaments, judges, Deck Builder support, and custom Duel fields; from Goat to Tearlament, from Genesys to Rush Duel, everyone is supported.

  • TCG Advanced uses the current TCG Forbidden & Limited List, and the fully up-to-date card pool including the most recent Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game set releases.
  • OCG uses the current OCG Forbidden & Limited List and OCG rules, including cards that released only in the OCG.
  • Genesys is an alternative way to play the game that uses a points system instead of a Forbidden & Limited List. Rated games use 100 points.
  • Legacy formats are also supported, with over 75 period-correct Forbidden & Limited Lists and card pools.
  • Speed Duel lets Duelists take on the role of their chosen anime character, with personalized Skill Cards and a smaller Deck and Duel field. Its Forbidden & Limited List works differently from other formats.
  • Domain Format is a multiplayer free-for-all singleton format where each player's Deck can only contain monsters from their Deck Master's specific Domain. Check out DomainFormat.com for more information.
  • The Unlimited lobby exists to allow players to Duel with no formal restrictions on the contents of their Decks. It does not feature rated Duels.
  • Rush Duel is a completely separate card pool from all other formats, with its own unique board, rules, and Forbidden & Limited List. With unique new mechanics like LEGEND cards, Maximum Monsters, and Extra Deck Ritual Monsters, this format is great for new and returning players to try out a fast-paced but simplified version of Yu-Gi-Oh!
  • Solo Mode allows users to playtest their Decks without needing an opponent, creating a zero-pressure testing environment for getting used to a new strategy.

Whatever the format, every card in the Deck Builder gets a legality badge showing exactly how many copies you're allowed to run, and the builder enforces those limits as you add cards to your Deck. Forbidden & Limited Lists change over time, so a Deck you saved months ago can stop being legal in the current format, but stays legal in that newly created legacy format. Nothing is ever deleted from your Deck, but it won't be selectable in a lobby whose format no longer allows it.

Lobbies and Matchmaking

From the Lobbies page, create an open lobby for anyone to apply to, with a spectator limit, an optional join code, and an optional note, or join the matchmaking queue for a random opponent in a rated Match. The queue matches you by your rating within a range that widens the longer you wait. Unrated games can be automatically matched in the same way, or joined directly from the lobby list.

Every lobby is either a single Duel or a best-of-3 Match with optional Side Deck swaps between Duels. Prefer to practice alone? Solo Mode gives you the whole board to yourself, with no opponent and no rating on the line.

Rating and Progress

Every format's rated Matches track their own rating, starting at 100. At the end of each season, your TCG Advanced Format rating will reset, with a portion of your final rating carried over as a reward going into the new format. Your rating from the previous season will also become your starting rating in the newest added legacy format: the one that just ended.

Each rated Match, regardless of format, also awards 1 EXP point. EXP points never expire and unlock new avatars on your Profile page. The players with the most EXP also have their own EXP leaderboard.

The Duel Room

The Duel Room is a full board: Monster Zones, Spell/Trap Zones, Extra Monster Zones, a Field Zone, Pendulum Scales, Graveyard, Banishment, and both players' Main and Extra Decks. Rush and Speed Duels get their own unique boards to match their formats' rules. Click and drag a card to play it face-up, right-click and drag to Set it face-down, or right-click on any card to pull up a menu of legal actions for that card from that zone. You track Life Points, phases, and turns manually yourself, exactly like you would at a sanctioned event. Emotes let you quickly and efficiently signal "thinking" or "OK" to your opponent without having to type. You can also Double-Click to target cards in your opponent's hand, or to activate/target cards in play, as well as change a monster's ATK/DEF.

Some cards carry an extra right-click option unique to them that resolves their effect in one click instead of ten drags. For example, Pot of Desires can banish the top ten cards of your Main Deck face-down for you, and Pot of Extravagance can banish 3 or 6 from your Extra Deck at random.

Duel Commands

Type /lookup in chat during a Duel to open a card search overlay; this allows for checking a card's exact wording without having to pause the Duel to call a judge, as you would at a sanctioned event.
Type /gain or /lose + a number to increase or decrease your Life Points by that amount.
Type /mill /draw or /banish + a number to move that many cards from the top of your Deck to your GY, Hand, or Banishment.

Replays and Spectating

Match logs are saved as replays which you can view from your Replays page, and share by link with anyone, both rated and unrated sessions alike, as well as your Solo Mode sessions. Replays of Matches with multiple Duels only appear once the Match in question is over, so nobody can scout your Deck List during a Match.

Lobbies with spectating enabled can also be watched live by spectators, up to the spectator limit set by the host.

Friends and Chat

Add other Duelists as friends to see when they're online and what they're up to. There's a sitewide public chat for community discussion, plus individual chats inside every lobby and Duel Room.

Profile Personalization

Your Profile page is where you set your personal cosmetic choices. Choose an avatar to represent you, and set your choice of pronouns to appear in the game log, so that it will read "Alice shuffled her deck" or "Bob shuffled his deck" correctly. You can also find settings for audio and visuals on this page.

PRO supporters unlock custom cosmetics: avatars, playmats, sleeves, tokens, coins, and dice that your opponents will see across the table.

Need Help Mid-Duel?

Every Duel Room has a Call Admin button. If your opponent is stalling, cheating, abusive, or something has gone genuinely wrong with the board, pause the game, call an admin, and an administrator will join your room to sort the situation out. Administrators can be identified by the colour of their handle: administrators will appear in green, senior administrators will appear in gray, and head administrators will appear in gold.

Rules and Punishments

SimOrg is a competitive environment with real enforcement. Read the Rules and Punishments page before your first rated Match; ignorance of the rules is not an excuse.
